carecare

"The care-givers and therapists at CARE possess exceptional skills, and are dedicated to continuously provide love and support to the children at all times."
- Palesa

C.A.R.E.'s full multi-disciplinary team works on site. We function as a trans-disciplinary team, thus encompassing the elements of each profession during every minute of the day. Our staff contingent includes occupational therapists, speech therapists, educators and trained facilitators. Our comprehensive offering means that C.A.R.E. becomes a single point of contact for you and your child's needs.

Because we keep our classes small, we are able to offer each child an individualized educational development programme, structured to suit his or her specific needs.

Having all of your child's teachers and therapists under one roof is a great benefit in that your child's care is fully integrated, ensuring effective and efficient collaboration between home, therapy and education.

"My daughter has just developed tremendously after the past 2 years at CARE – we sometimes can’t believe it is the same child!" - Paula

THE C.A.R.E. PROGRAMME

SPEECH AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
We provide each child with individual sessions of speech and occupational therapy based on his or her needs. Classroom and Group therapy are offered to all children, determined by the needs of the child.

PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy is available to learners who require it. This is determined by their physical ability profile.

APPLIED BEHAVIOURAL ANALYSIS (ABA) PRINCIPLES
We use this well-researched method’s principles throughout the centre. CARE offers one-on-one facilitation on a case-by-case basis, yet this facilitation is integrated into the daily classroom setting.

PRE-SCHOOL (18 MONTHS – 7 YEARS)
Small class sizes ensure optimal individual attention while still encouraging social integration. English is used as the medium of instruction. Each learner has an individualised educational development programme (IEDP) structured to optimise their potential.

C.A.R.E. aims to support the philosophy and principles of the National Curriculum by providing an environment to support and facilitate 'learning through play'. It is also our belief that optimal learning for every child is possible through the adaptation of classroom materials and teaching strategies.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS
These groups are geared towards teaching learners specific social skills which they have difficulty developing incidentally.

PARENT SUPPORT
Support for parents is core to our ethos. We hold parent support groups to keep parents informed and to communicate their difficulties about parenting a child with autism. There are weekly written progress reports, quarterly case discussions and behavior management counseling.

EXTRA-MURAL ACTIVITIES

We have various extra-mural activities available for learners. These activities encourage global and holistic development.

AUTISM DIAGNOSTIC OBSERVATION SCHEDULE-2 (ADOS-2)

This semi-structured, play-based assessment considers the varied dimensions of Autism Spectrum Disorder and evaluates each area separately. It provides a good indication of whether or not a child falls onto the Autistic Spectrum. It also indicates the severity of Autism; the tool can also be used to measure change over a period of time. There are currently three qualified members of staff trained to administer the ADOS-2 at C.A.R.E.

"I am glad to report that my son (who is five years of age) makes perfect eye contact, has developed reasonable speech (and started reading), ceased 70% of autistic behaviour and has good social skills." - Courtnall
