Jackie Paterson Selley is a dedicated and highly qualified Occupational Therapist with a special interest in neurodevelopmental delays, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She brings a wealth of experience and extensive postgraduate training to her role as Principal and Therapy Director at the Centre for Autism Research & Education (CARE) in Johannesburg.
Jackie qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2010 and has since built a robust career focusing on the needs of neurodivergent individuals. Her academic journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, an Honours degree in Fine Arts, She has a special interest in neurodevelopmental delay, specifically autism spectrum disorder and has completed extensive post graduate training in this field. She is currently completing her MSC in child health and neurodevelopment and a post graduate diploma in sensory integration.
Jackie’s passion for supporting neurodivergent people is deeply rooted in her personal and professional experiences. Influenced by her mother, the late Prof Lorna Jacklin, and her early experience au-pairing a toddler with autism, Jackie has committed her career to making a difference in the lives of individuals with ASD. Her professional training includes becoming a Makaton Regional Tutor and a Tutor for Autism-Centred Education.
Jackie’s role at CARE involves overseeing the therapeutic and educational programs, ensuring that each child receives personalised and effective intervention. Her leadership is characterised by a deep commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where children with autism can thrive. Jackie’s approach is informed by the latest research and best practices in autism care, and she is dedicated to the continuous professional development of her team.
