With over a decade of experience at the Centre for Autism Research & Education (CARE), Lindi has become an integral part of our team, contributing significantly to the development and implementation of our therapeutic and vocational programs.
Lindi’s professional journey began with her clinical training, where she gained valuable experience working in various general and psychiatric hospitals in Venda, Johannesburg, and Pretoria. Her exposure to diverse clinical settings allowed her to develop a comprehensive understanding of the needs of individuals with autism and other developmental challenges.
During her time in these clinical environments, Lindi recognised the importance of independent skills training and functional integration into both the workplace and the community. This realisation motivated her to further her education, leading to the completion of her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology & Linguistics at the University of Witwatersrand in 2022. Her research focused on the behaviours and emotional development of siblings of children with autism, providing her with a deeper understanding of the social function of language and its application in various settings.
In 2022, Lindi was appointed as the Vocational Manager at CARE, where she now leads the senior and vocational unit. In this role, she oversees programs designed to equip older children and young adults with the skills necessary for successful integration into the workplace and community. Her approach emphasises the importance of social communication, cognitive psychology, and the practical application of language skills.
Lindi’s dedication to her field is further demonstrated by her intention to pursue a Master’s degree in Psychology or Linguistics, aiming to deepen her expertise and continue contributing to the field of autism care.
Lindiwe Chuene’s extensive experience and academic background make her a key asset to the CARE team. Her work is characterised by a commitment to enhancing the lives of children with autism through comprehensive therapy and vocational training. By focusing on the development of independent skills and social integration, Lindi ensures that each child at CARE is prepared to achieve their full potential in both personal and professional aspects of life.
